Happy International Women's Day #ChooseToChallenge

Today, 8 March is a reminder for us all to celebrate brilliant women from all industries, age, class, religion, culture, sexual orientation & circumstance šŸ’«

This year the theme isĀ #ChooseToChallengeĀ and I challenge all women to self-promote themselves better: their talents, their skills and their achievements. The list goes on. Today, I start this challenge by acknowledging myself.

For generations, women have kept quiet about their intelligent minds from fear of being ā€œunattractiveā€, ā€œtoo outspokenā€ or ā€œinappropriateā€.

Even women who have the freedom to work are afraid of talking about their achievements, because it’s viewed not ā€œmodestā€ and apparently female assertiveness is ā€œbitchyā€.

My name is Isabelle Ng and I started KINOI alone because I wanted to make a change on single use bubble tea plastic. I was 20 years old in the beginning of 2019 when I thought of the idea, and for the longest time I never acknowledged it was a one-woman business!

I would only film when friends & family help to show as if there is a huge team, when in fact most of the time, it’s me alone.

Even as I am typing this, I feel I need to give credit to my friends & family who have supported me all the way.. but I should cut myself some slack and give myself credit too!

Women are definitely less comfortable to say ā€œIā€ in a sentence ā€œI achieved thisā€, and instead say ā€œWe did thisā€ or ā€œI achieved this... but with the help of (etc).ā€ Let’s change this!

So to young girls, working ladies, mothers, caring grandmothers, incredible wives & single women... let’s celebrate and acknowledge our everyday achievements. Because we deserve it and we shouldn’t hide it šŸ™Œ

Lots of Love
Issy + KINOI xx
